Inaugural graduation ceremony for the Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court set for Wednesday, June 27th, 2018

The Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court will hold its graduation ceremony and celebration on Wednesday June 27th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Legislative Chamber of the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE 68183

For Veterans Treatment Court graduates, the ceremony marks the completion of an intensive program of comprehensive drug treatment, close supervision, and full accountability.  Presiding Veterans Treatment Court Judge, W. Mark Ashford, will host the ceremony. Guest speakers include Douglas County Attorney Donald Kleine, Senator John McCollister, and Justice Stephanie F. Stacy.

The Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court is a voluntary 18-24 month program for veterans who are struggling with service-related addiction, mental health issues, and/or other co-occurring disorders.  The Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court operates through the use of the Veterans Treatment Court Progression Plan.  This plan includes elements designed to provide participants with objective, measurable, and consistent goals to assist with progression through the program.  This program is the first Problem-Solving Court for veterans in the state of Nebraska.

Like other Nebraska Problem-Solving Courts, the Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court operates under a team approach where a judge, prosecutor, defense counsel, community supervision officer, law enforcement, and treatment provider work together to design an individualized program.  Additionally this team works with a Mentor/Volunteer Coordinator, a Veterans Justice Outreach Social Worker, and a Veterans Legal Support Network Advocate.
