Review of Nebraska Criminal Justice Reform Progress Released to Judiciary

In a report released this week the Nebraska Judiciary, Deputy Probation Administrator, Deb Minardi provided a written review of Nebraska’s current criminal justice reform efforts. The report, presented to the Nebraska Supreme Court in an administrative briefing last month, includes a 2016/2017 court data comparison and trend analysis.

In the report Minardi noted that the current sentencing data “reflects very encouraging progress consistent with the legislative intent.”  The Nebraska Legislature passed LB605 in 2015 to promote criminal justice reform within the State of Nebraska.

Minardi also mentioned that there is more work to do and it is important to note that the impact of LB605 has not yet been fully realized. Nebraskans should expect justice reform efforts to take another two or more years as cases continue to process through the criminal justice system.
