Helping Babies from the Bench Training

The Through the Eyes of the Child Initiative will be co-sponsoring a Helping Babies from the Bench training with the Nebraska Early Development Network in Scottsbluff on October 11 and 12, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This training combines two training phases into one two-day session and focuses on assessing trauma and child development; necessary medical care and child care; improving the parent-child relationship; and ways in which courts can improve outcomes.

This training focuses on infants and toddlers in the abuse/neglect court system and how courts and local communities can ensure the best possible outcomes for them. The training is led by Judge Doug Johnson, Omaha, and a group of trainers that includes attorneys, education professionals, and psychologists.

Judge Trainer: Judge Doug Johnson, Separate Juvenile Court, Omaha

Invitations issued to all individuals with a stake in the child welfare court system are invited to attend, including judges, attorneys, caseworkers, clerks, school personnel, law enforcement, medical and service providers, foster families, treatment providers, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Foster Care Review Board, and court facilitators.

Helping Babies from the Bench uses the Science of Early Childhood Development to raise awareness among court professionals and educators of the impact child abuse and neglect/mistreatment has on developmental outcomes for infants and toddlers.


Helping Babies from the Bench is co-sponsored by the Through the Eyes of the Child Initiative and by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the Nebraska Department of Education.
