Calling Aspiring Court Interpreters: Orientation scheduled August 8 & 9, 2020

A beautiful mosaic in the State Capitol has tiles of many colors and these words from the United States’ Declaration of Independence:  “all men are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are   life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Those brilliant tiles symbolize the remarkable cultural diversity across Nebraska that continues to grow each year.  Our State Court Interpreters’ important contribution to language access in our state courts and probation offices helps ensure the rights of all Nebraskans to tell their own stories in their own words.

Those who successfully certify as Nebraska court interpreters have a native-like proficiency in both English and another language, allowing them to move seamlessly between two languages.  Court Interpreter certification is a three-step process that begins with Court Interpreter Orientation.

The Judicial Branch’s next Interpreter Orientation workshop is scheduled for August 8 and 9, 2020, at the Judicial Branch Education facility in Lincoln.  Look on the Judicial Branch https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/sites/default/files/Programs/interpreters/AD-2-09_Lincoln.pdf for an Interpreter Orientation registration form. Registration and a $150.00 check or money order payable to Nebraska Supreme Court is due by July 24, 2020.
