The Nebraska Supreme Court is accepting applications for an Assistant Staff Attorney. This position involves highly responsible legal and administrative work. This person is an assistant to the Staff Attorney for Nebraska Supreme Court and may be delegated a wide variety of responsibilities by the Staff Attorney. The functions and duties performed by the Assistant Staff Attorney, as well as the general plans and objectives of the office, are developed by the Staff Attorney based on directives from the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court and in consultation with the State Court Administrator.

Qualifications / Requirements:  Active membership in good standing with the NE State Bar. Preferred: 1-3 years demonstrated extensive experience in legal writing, familiarity with NE law and court procedures.

Job duties:  Work involves legal and administrative matters related to the Supreme Court's appellate procedures and processes, including its Clerk's Office, and the Court's administrative responsibilities as to the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation and its general administrative authority over all Nebraska courts. Duties include reviewing appeals for jurisdiction, preparing case summaries, researching and writing legal advisory memorandum on legal issues associated with Supreme Court's general administrative authority, general legal research as assigned by Staff Attorney or Supreme Court.  Knowledge, skills and abilities:  Windows and Microsoft Office/Word experience, and proficiency in using computer assisted legal research such as Westlaw, and Lexis. Effective communication skills.
