Information for Nebraska Journalists Regarding Cameras in Courtrooms
The Expanded Media rule has been amended in two important ways:
- Reporters are now allowed to file one request to follow a full case within the specified court (meaning you need to refile when the case moves from county court to district court).
- Reporters may use electronic devices in the courtroom for notetaking purposes without prior permission of the court. Nothing can be shared or transmitted; recordings are only for the individual reporter to verify accuracy of a story.

The request form (AD 1:01 Rev: 07/2020) has also changed.
- Reporters are asked to write down the beginning date of the trial/hearing along with the case number and judge followed by the standard information on equipment.
- Based on recent experiences with national news outlets, reporters are asked questions about tweeting/blogging, live streaming and timing of gavel-to-gavel coverage

If managers have saved the original version of the request form to their desktop, please replace it with the July revision at the link above.
