Problem-Solving Courts are an alternate pathway within the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders. These specialized courts operate within the existing court structure and employ a team approach. The primary objective of these courts is to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals struggling with substance use disorders. By utilizing validated risk and need assessments, early and personalized behavioral health treatment, regular and random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative and ancillary services, the courts aim to ensure public safety while increasing the likelihood of successful rehabilitation for participants.
