Lancaster County Court Judge Jim Foster to Retire January 31, 2016

County Court Judge James L. Foster of Lincoln, Nebraska, recently submitted his notice to the Governor indicating his plan to retire January 31, 2016, after nearly 33 years on the bench. “Judge Foster has been the face of Lancaster County Court for 32 years and has the perspective that one can only acquire from time on the bench,” commented fellow Lancaster County Court Judge Laurie Yardley. “He will be greatly missed for his wisdom, knowledge, compassion, and humor.” After taking the bench in August 1983, Judge Foster was retained in his position by area voters through several elections, most recently in 2010. The first step in replacing Judge Foster will be for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether or not, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a vacancy in the 3rd Judicial District (Lancaster County).
