This position is responsible for the administration and statewide operation of all juvenile programs and services within the Nebraska Probation System. This position will perform complex management work in planning, organizing and administering the juvenile division. Essential functions will include developing programs and policy directing the division’s work through supervisors and integrating the goals and programs with other divisions; ensuring compliance with state and federal laws; maintaining division records and preparing reports; preparing the division’s budget and assisting in all fiscal matters; attending administrative meetings and educational programs relating to the juvenile division; providing liaison between division and other governmental units; supervising and assisting research programs in collecting information relative to divisional needs. Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to juvenile issues, juvenile and criminal laws, interviewing and investigative techniques; ability to plan and organize functions and work assignments to meet division objectives; knowledge of juvenile justice principles and procedures; ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others; communicate effectively orally and in writing; organize and assemble data, interpret results and prepare accurate reports; skill in presenting information to groups and individual; interpreting results of surveys and studies relating to division functions.
Basic job qualifications include any combination of training and/or experience that will enable the incumbent to possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A Bachelor’s degree in the area related to division functions plus five years’ related experience or a Master’s degree in an area related to division functions plus three years’ experience. Three years of work experience must be of an administrative and supervisory nature.
