Providing Effective, Inclusive and Affirming Treatment and Care of LGBTQ Individuals

Child Guidance Center presents: Providing Effective, Inclusive and Affirming Treatment and Care of LGBTQ Individuals, featuring Ryan Sallans and Megan Smith-Sallans. Join us April 4-5, 2018 at Chez Hay Catering in Lincoln.

Conference Objectives:

At the end of day one:

  1. Participants’ understanding of current health trends impacting clients who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ) will be enhanced.
  2. Participants will be able to employ strategies and activities that improve clinician ‐ client communication and interactions.
  3. Participants will be able to identify current barriers within individual healthcare settings that block appropriate services for LGBTQ clients.

At the end of day two:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the principles of an affirmative model of care.
  2. Participants will be able to explain the role of a gender affirmative therapist.
  3. Participants will be able to discuss therapeutic needs and providing inclusive environments for sexual minority youth.
  4. Participants will be able to describe the assessment process for gender expansive children/adolescents. 
  5. Participants will be able to discuss therapeutic goals in working with gender expansive youth and their families.
  6. Participants will be able to explain therapeutic interventions for LGBTQ+ youth.
