Hobbs Sworn-in During Zoom Oath of Office Ceremony in Valentine

Michaela Hobbs was sworn in as Clerk Magistrate of the Cherry County Court in Valentine on January 18, 2024. The ceremony was broadcast via Zoom for those unable to attend due to winter storms.

Judge James Orr presided over the ceremony from the courtroom in Valentine, with State Court Administrator Corey Steel delivering opening remarks and extending on-camera congratulations to Hobbs. Former clerk magistrate Kay Morrison, who retired at the end of 2021, assisted Hobbs with her robe.

Hobbs will work directly for Orr and under the general direction of county court judges of the 8th District, including Judges Kale Burdick and Tami Schendt. As clerk, Hobbs is responsible for providing public service and managing the records, finances, and general operation of the courts. Additionally, she collaborates with the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation to identify and implement improved efficiencies in the court office.
