Nebraska Supreme Court to Hold Court Session at Papillion High School Following Creighton Law School

Papillion-La Vista Senior High School has invited Chief Justice Mike Heavican and the Supreme Court to hold oral arguments at the school on the afternoon of March 29, 2023.

The visit marks the first time the Supreme Court has held arguments in Papillion, where Chief Justice Michael Heavican began his teaching career after graduating college. Heavican attended law school and moved to the legal field following his years with Papillion High School.

Wednesday’s argument at Papillion will follow the Supreme Court’s oral argument session at the Creighton University School of Law that same day from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

For over 40 years, the Supreme Court has traveled annually to each of Nebraska’s law schools to make the Court’s business accessible to students on their campuses. Justices spend time talking to students about the appellate process and career opportunities as lawyers after argument sessions. Cases are selected to demonstrate the variety of legal arguments that face the court system on a regular basis.
