Office of Public Guardian Completes Spring 2023 All-Staff Training

Office of Public Guardian (OPG) staff gathered March 8-10 in Lincoln to participate in All-Staff Training, the first in-person training of 2023. Ongoing training and education are a high priority for the office, a priority supported by the National Guardianship Association Standards of Practice, which state in part: “The guardian shall seek ongoing education concerning the following: … responsibilities and duties of guardians, legal processes of guardianship, tools for resolving conflict, services available through protection and advocacy organizations, the role of the guardian ad litem, ABLE accounts, special needs trusts, and providing services in the most integrative and least restrictive setting.”

Staff members participated in a variety of sessions focused largely on benefits and services available to wards and protected persons served by the OPG as well as private guardians/conservators across the state. Guest speakers included representatives from Nebraska SHIP – Medicare Education, Lincoln Police Department, Quality of Life Foundation Trust, Judicial Branch Education, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (Medicaid Estate Recovery), and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (Medicaid). Staff also received OPG program updates and discussed various case management topics pertinent to the office.
