Heavican Talks Pandemic Preparedness on Legal Rebels Podcast

Following the Nebraska-hosted pandemic planning summit in Omaha in May 2019 and Nebraska’s COVID outbreak in March 2020, Chief Justice Mike Heavican found himself in the center of court system pandemic implementation.

When asked why the Nebraska Supreme Court decided to host the first-ever National Center for State Court’s Pandemic Summit, the Chief Justice responded, “Because the University of Nebraska medical center in Omaha has one of the few Biocontainment Units in the county, [I thought] it might be a very good idea that Nebraska state courts be especially prepared for problems with pandemics.”

And, right he was.

In recognition of his foresight, the American Bar Association Journal’s LEGAL REBELS PODCAST called the Chief Justice for an interview. The program, named “How hosting a national pandemic summit aided the Nebraska courts system with its COVID-19 response,” was posted on May 13, 2020.
