Trauma Informed Mediation Training Held in Omaha

Parenting mediators and others from across the state attended a full day training session on ‘Trauma Informed Mediation’ at Champions Run Golf Club, Omaha on Friday, April 6, 2018. The Nebraska Mediation Association, a statewide organization that promotes excellence in mediation practice through education, training, and networking. The Association brought Michael Saini, Ph.D., M.S.W., R.S.W., Factor-Inwentash Chair in Law and Social Work, University of Toronto, to Nebraska for a talk about working with high conflict families involved in the separation or divorce process. Dr. Saini presented on key principles for trauma-informed mediation and taught specific techniques to help mediators assist high conflict parties to emotionally self-regulate during the mediation process. Mediators learned how to assist parents to focus on building agreements with the goal of preventing long-term trauma for children of separation and divorce.
