Judicial Resources Commission to Hold June 3 Public Hearing

The Judicial Resources Commission will hold a public hearing on Friday, June 3, 2022, beginning at 10 a.m. central standard time, in Room 1510 of the State Capitol Building in Lincoln, Nebraska, to consider the following agenda items:

1.         Whether a judicial vacancy exists in the County Court of the 2nd Judicial District, due to the resignation of Judge Robert C. Wester effective April 30, 2022, and if so whether to recommend a primary office location.

2.         Whether a judicial vacancy exists in the County Court of the 5th Judicial District, due to the retirement of Judge Frank J. Skorupa effective April 30, 2022, and if so whether to recommend a primary office location.

3.         Whether a judicial vacancy exists in the County Court of the 1st Judicial District, due to the retirement of Judge Curtis L. Maschman effective May 31, 2022, and if so whether to recommend a primary office location.

4.         Whether a judicial vacancy exists in the District Court of the 11th Judicial District, due to the retirement of Judge Richard A. Birch effective May 31, 2022, and if so whether to recommend a primary office location.

5.         Whether a judicial vacancy exists in the Separate Juvenile Court, Sarpy County, due to the retirement of Judge Robert B. O’Neal effective May 31, 2022.

HEARING ATTENDANCE OPTIONS: The public hearing will be conducted in-person from Room 1510 of the State Capitol, and will include the option of attending via WebEx virtual conferencing. PUBLIC TESTIMONY OPTIONS: WebEx will not be used to receive public testimony. Those who want to present testimony during the public hearing have two options:

  1. Appear in person at the State Capitol and sign in as a witness. Those attending the hearing in person should be prepared for staggered admittance to the hearing room and restricted seating in order to maintain appropriate social distancing and to comply with any directed health measures then in effect.
  2. Provide written testimony in advance of the hearing by emailing it to: Dawn.Mussmann@nebraska.gov or by mailing it postage pre-paid to: Judicial Resources Commission, State Capitol Building, P.O. Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509.   To be considered by the Commission, written testimony must be received by no later than May 31, 2022. All written testimony submitted by the deadline will be marked as an exhibit, received at the hearing, and made available to the public.
