County Courtroom Clerk

Location:  Plattsmouth, Cass County Courthouse

This classification level works under general supervision and is responsible for spending a majority of time in the courtroom and providing courtroom related work such as capturing and recording verbatim proceedings of court and maintaining case information during and after proceedings. 

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Preparing documents for each court session (e.g. label exhibits, prepare journal entries); 
  2. Recording proceedings; 
  3. Schedule further court hearings;
  4. Monitors on-going case files, which includes: identifying appropriate forms to be completed or received; 
  5. Monitoring case status; 
  6. Issuing and processing warrants and civil suspensions; 
  7. Tracking and maintaining files; 
  8. Processes and prepares casework for court sessions; 
  9. Notates court actions on applicable documents and forms; 
  10. Maintains court calendar; 
  11. Schedules interpreters, transportation, prosecutors, defense council, and/or events;
  12. Performs routine administrative support duties, which include: scheduling court hearing meetings; labelling exhibits, preparing journal entries and preparing other standard documents for court session. 

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  1. Customer service principles; 

  2. Computers and related software applications; 

  3. Criminal coding concepts; 

  4. Federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; 

  5. Office procedures, methods, and equipment; 

  6. Data entry techniques; 

  7. Providing customer service; 

  8. Maintaining records; 

  9. Performing data entry; 

  10. Operating standard office equipment; 

  11. Using computers and related software applications; 

  12. Reviewing reports for accuracy; 

  13. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Positions in this class work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required, not to exceed 20 LBS.

HIRING RATE (during probation):  $35,852.70

AFTER PROBATION:  $36,748.98
