Chief Justice Mike Heavican gave his 2019 State of the Judiciary speech to the Nebraska Legislature on January 17, 2019. During his presentation he highlighted the work of probation, court technology, language access, guardian-conservator services, and the Court’s program for educational outreach.

The Chief Justice outlined the pivotal role that courts and probation play in justice reinvestment and the dynamic initiatives that the Nebraska Supreme Court has implemented to increase access to the courts and to justice. He remarked that, “You will find there are no better-spent tax dollars than the tax dollars you allocate to the Courts and Probation.”

He also announced new restorative justice programming, this summer’s community dialog with tribal courts, and the Court’s national conference on responding to a pandemic outbreak. While discussing probation programming, he introduced Ms. Deb Minardi to the senators as the Court’s new State Probation Administrator.
