Clerk Magistrate Darla Schiefelbein of the Platte County Court to Retire November 3
Platte County Court Clerk Magistrate Darla Schiefelbein submitted her notice of retirement effective November 3, 2023. She will retire with 29 years of service to the courts. Schiefelbein was appointed Clerk Magistrate of the Platte County Court in 1994. She supervises five staff in the court and is responsible for the court caseload and progression.
Schiefelbein was appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court Commission on Guardianships and Conservatorships in 2012. In 2013 she was selected to be one of three Guardian/Conservator Specialists; serving as a resource for county court staff working with guardianships and conservatorships in Nebraska. The goals of the specialists are to work to ensure uniformity among the courts and to improve processes and forms used for Guardianships and Conservatorships. Schiefelbein also serves on the Office of Public Guardian Advisory Counsel.
Schiefelbein is a member of the Nebraska County Court Association and served on the Education Committee and the Merger/Consolidation Committee.
She has received two high-level Judicial Branch Awards.
- In 2010 Schiefelbein and records clerk Kathleen Heim received the Outstanding Customer Service award. In 2014 Guardian/Conservator Specialists Schiefelbein, Cathy Reiman, and Linda Hanak received the outstanding t4eam award.
- In 2017 Schiefelbein was awarded an “Above and Beyond” award for her work with the Guardian Conservator Committee, Office of Public Guardian Advisory Council, Clerk Magistrate’s Education Committee and as a Guardian-conservator specialist.
“Darla Schiefelbein has been an exemplary leader in the Nebraska County Courts,” said Trial Court Services Director Sheryl Connolly. “Her knowledge, dedication, and passion for the courts and service to the public have made her a “go-to” for many of us in the branch. She will be greatly missed."
Upon Schiefelbein’s retirement, a Clerk Magistrate or Interim Clerk Magistrate will be designated for the court.
