County Court Judge Jeffrey Marcuzzo to Retire Mid-January

Judge of the County Court, 4th Judicial District, Jeffrey Marcuzzo, is retiring January 10, 2025.

In his retirement announcement to the Governor, Marcuzzo wrote, “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve as Douglas County Court judge for the past 24 ½ years.”  He continued, “I have been honored to serve and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be a member of the judiciary of the great state of Nebraska.”

Throughout his tenure, Marcuzzo served on numerous judicial committees for the Nebraska County Judges Association. He was an early adopter of the Judicial Branch’s automated case management system and taught several staff members to effectively use the system. Marcuzzo worked with the county judges association writing the portion of the handbook for journalists on sentencing.

He also volunteered for the Nebraska State Bar Foundation’s High School Mock Trial project and the Law Day Job Shadowing program for 5th graders, along with other community activities.

Marcuzzo has served the citizens of Douglas County (4th Judicial District) from 2000 until his retirement this year. After taking the bench, he was retained in his position four times by area voters.

The first step in deciding whether Marcuzzo’s judicial position will need to be filled, is for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether or not, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a judicial vacancy on the Douglas County court.
