Nebraska District Court Judge Stefanie Martinez of Papillion, along with Court of Appeals Judge Francie Riedmann of Gretna, have been invited to sit with the Nebraska Supreme Court on Thursday, April 5th for the April argument session.

The morning court session will be held at the Creighton University School of Law in Omaha beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon session at Millard North High School will begin with an education session at 1:00 p.m. followed by arguments at 1:30 p.m. Oral arguments can be viewed live from Nebraska Educational Television’s Live & On Demand: State Government website: http://netnebraska.org/basic-page/television/live-demand-state-government

For over 30 years the Nebraska Supreme Court has traveled to the law schools for the purpose of making the Court’s business accessible to students on their campus. Annual visits are made each spring to the University of Nebraska College of Law in Lincoln and Creighton University School of Law in Omaha. High School sessions are held throughout the state on a rotating basis.

Cases argued at the schools are selected to demonstrate the variety of legal arguments that face the court system on a regular basis. Students are furnished with case descriptions, case briefs, and a variety of informational resources regarding Nebraska’s appellate and trial courts.

Following each argument session, the judges will spend time talking to students about the appellate process and career opportunities as lawyers.

Seven Justices make up the Nebraska Supreme Court: Chief Justice Mike Heavican and six Associate Justices. In addition to the Chief Justice, the following judges will be hearing cases on April 5, 2018:

Judges Martinez and Riedmann will be sitting for Justice John Wright and former Justice Max Kelch.
