Judge of the District Court, 1st Judicial District, Paul W. Korslund, is retiring effective April 1, 2016. In his letter of resignation to the Governor, Judge Korslund noted, “It has been a great privilege to serve the people of Nebraska, and especially the people of Gage and Jefferson counties, as a district judge. The judicial branch of Nebraska is exemplary in its dedication to equal justice under the law, and it has been an honor for me to have played a part in that effort. I am very grateful to the court staff, the clerks of the court and their offices, the practicing lawyers, my fellow judges, and the people for their support.” Judge Korslund has served on numerous Nebraska Supreme Court Committees, including the Nebraska Court Re-Engineering Task Force, the Parenting Act Fund Policy Committee, the Commission on Children in the Court, and the Subcommittee on Children in the District Courts. In addition, Judge Korslund has served on the Nebraska District Judges Association Governmental and Public Relations Committee, the Judicial Education Committee, and the Pension and Salary Committee. In 2008, Judge Korslund received the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Outstanding Judge Award for Service to the Community. He is also a Nebraska State Bar Foundation Fellow. After taking the bench in 1998, Judge Korslund was retained in his position by area voters, most recently in 2014. The first step in replacing Judge Korslund will be for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether or not, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a judicial vacancy on the District Court for the First Judicial District.
