Judge W. Russell Bowie to Retire from Douglas County District Court
Judge of the District Court, 4th Judicial District, W. Russell Bowie, is retiring January 8, 2025.
In his retirement announcement to the Chief Justice, Bowie wrote, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Douglas County, and a few others, during my 18-plus years.”
Bowie has served on the Douglas County bench from his appointment in 2006 through his retirement. After taking the bench, he was retained in his position by area voters, most recently in 2022.
The first step in deciding whether Bowie’s judicial position will need to be filled, is for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether or not, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a judicial vacancy on the district court for the 4th Judicial District.
