Judicial Resources Commission to Hold October 17 Public Hearing
The Judicial Resources Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. central time, to determine whether a judicial vacancy exists in the office of district court of the 2nd Judicial District due to the retirement of Judge William B. Zastera effective October 1, 2017, and if so to make a recommendation to the Supreme Court as to the primary place of office of said vacancy.
Pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 24-1204 (Reissue 2016), the public hearing will be conducted via telephone conference from the Nebraska State Capitol, Room 1510, Lincoln, Nebraska. Only members of the commission may attend the hearing via telephone conference call.
Members of the public wishing to present oral testimony before the commission may do so by attending the public hearing in Room 1510 of the State Capitol. Members of the public wishing to present written testimony or other pertinent information to the commission may do so by mailing it to the Chairperson no later than Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the following address: State Capitol Building, Room 2219, Lincoln, NE 68509.
To determine whether a judicial vacancy exists, the commission considers current judicial workload statistics, whether litigants in the district have adequate access to the courts, population, judicial duties, travel time and other factors necessary to assure efficiency and service of the court system.
