Kickoff for Statewide Juvenile Justice System Enhancement June 21

Chief Justice Michael Heavican and the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation cordially invite you to the Juvenile Justice System Enhancement ~ Nebraska (JJSEN) Virtual Kickoff Event held online at noon (Central Time) on June 21, 2021.

June 2021 marks the beginning of JJSEN, a statewide probation initiative. The enhancement is supported by a grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, which provides a three-year period to take the work that has happened in District 3J, Lancaster County, through the Dennis M. Mondoro Probation and Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Project statewide.

The statewide enhancement will include bringing multiple national juvenile justice experts to Nebraska. During the kickoff, each expert will introduce themselves and discuss their role during JJSEN. Experts include:

  • Robert F. Kennedy National Resource Center for Juvenile Justice
    • John Tuell, Executive Director
  • National Center for Juvenile Justice
    • Hunter Hurst IV, Senior Research Associate
  • The Impact Center at Frank Porter Graham, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
    • Renee Boothroyd, Associate Director, Senior Implementation Specialist
    • Robin Jenkins, Associate Directory, Senior Implementation Specialist
  • National Youth Screening and Assessment Partners
    • Keith Cruise, PhD., Consultant, Trauma and Behavioral Health Screening and Risk/Needs Assessment

During the first year, a comprehensive juvenile probation system review will be conducted, including a data capacity assessment through the lens of implementation science. The review will result in targeted recommendations that will enhance probation practices and positively impact probation youth and their families statewide.
