Nebraska Chief Justice to Give Annual State of the Judiciary Address
Chief Justice Mike Heavican will give his annual State of the Judiciary address to the Legislature at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2023, in the Unicameral Chamber.
Nebraska Public Media will air the speech online as part of its regular legislative coverage, which can be viewed: https://nebraskapublicmedia.org/en/watch/live/ (link will appear as Legislative Morning Session).
The Chief Justice will give the State of the Judiciary address at the invitation of the Speaker of the Legislature Senator John Arch. Since 2008 this address has been the judiciary’s opportunity to highlight Judicial Branch priorities for the upcoming year and provide relevant information directly to lawmakers. Heavican will give an overview of the activities of the judicial branch of government, including projects involving the state’s trial court judges, non-judicial employees in courthouses, and probation offices across the state.
The State of the Judiciary video, written remarks, and related materials will be available through the Nebraska Judicial Branch Website in the publications archive following the address.
