Nebraska Team to Provide Congressional Briefing on Capitol Hill April 20, 2017
Two of Nebraska’s experts on criminal justice reform, Nebraska District Court Judge John Colborn and University of Nebraska - Lincoln Professor Dr. Richard L. Wiener, will discuss Justice Reinvestment with members of Congress on April 20, 2017, from 12:00 – 1:15 p.m. through a program sponsored by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues.
Colborn and Wiener will discuss issues of criminal justice reform in the Midwest using experiences with recent Justice Reinvestment reforms in Nebraska. U.S. Senators and members of the U. S. House of Representatives will be in attendance.
Both speakers will pay special attention to the way in which policy initiatives have brought about change in Nebraska and document the resulting advances in risk assessment, evidence-based practice, and lower recidivism. In conjunction with the Council of State Governments, the State of Nebraska has actively engaged in Justice Reinvestment to move forward in decreasing recidivism, increasing public safety, and improving offender reentry outcomes—all the while decreasing the cost of corrections.
* The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, Washington, will use Facebook Live to stream the event and will tweet out information regarding broadcast. Contact Chris Paget 402-471-1843 (Nebraska Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation) for information on viewing the presentation.
