Supreme Court Justices will hold court arguments in the theatre of the Nebraska City High School on November 2, 2022.  The court session comes at the invitation of High School Principal Brian Hoover.

“Having the Supreme Court come and present arguments is a great opportunity for our students -- to be able to listen to these experts and observe the process is the exact kind of educational experience we want at Nebraska City Public Schools,” noted Hoover on the Court's visit.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Principal Hoover will review the Court’s rules and expectations with students noting that the theatre will transform into a Supreme Court Courtroom for the remainder of the morning. Before lawyers begin their arguments, Otoe County Judge David Partsch will speak with the students about the process of a case from the trial court to the appellate level. Partsch is a Nebraska City High School graduate who actively works in the community to promote the welfare of area children.

Justices will first hear two cases, which are selected to demonstrate legal arguments that face the court system on a regular basis. Following arguments, justices will discuss the appellate process and career opportunities with students.

The Supreme Court travels to high schools several times per year to participate in educational programming for students within their communities. The Nebraska City High School visit marks the first visit to Nebraska City.

Whether held in the Supreme Court courtroom or outside the State Capitol, all argument sessions are open to the public.
