Breakfast at the University of Nebraska - Kearney - Day two, visit one of the Chief Justice’s Summer Tour 2017
The second day of the Chief Justice’s Summer Tour started with an early breakfast in the new Health Science Education Complex on University of Nebraska - Kearney campus.
Chancellor Doug Kristensen welcomed all guests before introducing the College’s first ‘Kearney Law Opportunities Program’ class. The five participating students have committed to practicing law in a rural community and will receive their Bachelor’s Degree at UNK followed by guaranteed admission to the University of Nebraska College of Law.
Chief Justice Heavican, UNL Law School Dean Richard Moberly and Federal Judge Joe Bataillon were featured speakers for the event. Chief Justice Heavican and State Court Administrator Corey Steel were quick to acknowledge the fine work of the College in preparing students for careers in, and supportive of, the Nebraska Judicial Branch.
Steel was recognized as a Loper (UNK) alum. When called on by the Chancellor, Steel remarked, “When the opportunity came for us to come to Kearney on the summer tour, I wanted to be able to say that I came back home to UNK.”
