Court Holds Arguments at UNL College of Law

The Nebraska Supreme Court held arguments at UNL College of Law on March 2, 2023, where justices heard three cases in the school’s courtroom.  The argument session was followed by a question-and-answer session with students focused on the elements of a good brief and effective oral argument.

For over 40 years, the Supreme Court has traveled to the University of Nebraska College of Law to make the Court’s business accessible to law students on campus. The May 1980 edition of “The Nebraska Transcript” contains an article about the Supreme Court holding arguments at UNL in conjunction with the Student Bar Association’s Law Day program. According to the article, “Having the court sit at the law college was an attempt to create a forum in which the students and members of the public could observe the fine points of oral advocacy and other adversarial aspects of our judicial system.” Following an evaluation of the program, former Chief Justice Norman Krivosha and former Law School Dean John Strong agreed to make visiting arguments at the law college an annual event.
