Covid-19 Virtual Problem-Solving Court Graduation

Covid-19 Virtual Problem-Solving Court Graduation

The District 5 Problem-Solving Court celebrated the graduation of Jelone Hunnicutt and Sandra Hieronymus (pictured) from the Adult Drug Court Program on July 7, 2020.  Due to COVID 19, their successful completion of the Drug Court Program was celebrated with a virtual graduation via WebEx. The Honorable James C. Stecker presided over the ceremony. Others in virtual attendance were York County Board Members, District 5 Probation Staff, Probation Administration Staff, friends, and family. For Problem-Solving Court graduates, the ceremony marks the completion of an intensive program of comprehensive behavioral health treatment, intensive community supervision, and full accountability.

North Central Problem-Solving Court Coordinator, Morgan Campbell, remarked that a Problem-Solving Court Graduation is a time where past Problem-Solving Court clients and current Problem-Solving Court clients can share their successes and tribulations that come along with being involved in the program. It was a time for people to come together and celebrate Jelone and Sandra’s accomplishments.

Problem-Solving Courts are an alternate route through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders which utilize a specialized team process that functions within the existing court structure. The courts are designed to achieve a reduction in recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The court's goal is to protect public safety and increase the participant's likelihood of successful rehabilitation by utilizing validated risk and need assessments, early and individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent and random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative and ancillary services.
