District Judges’ Summer Conference-June 2019

District Judges from across the State of Nebraska gathered for a three-day District Judges’ Annual Conference in early June.  

The first day of the conference, Andy Barry presented on civil law updates, Mark Krieger gave domestic Law updates, and Judge Robert Steinke spoke about recent changes in Criminal Law and legislative bills. Program Director, Valerie Height, from Grief’s Journey spoke about grief and loss.

On the second day Judge Spillane from Texas spoke about Fines, Fees, & Bail Reform Efforts. Rick Jeffries presented on e-Competency and the different ways technology is used, whether good or bad. In the afternoon Interstate Compact Director Jacey Radar, explained how the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision helps promote public safety and tracks offenders through supervision. Judge Daugherty & Sherri Dennis presented information on the process of sealing records through JUSTICE. Judge Young and Mark Grimes shared details on a proposed rule for sharing evidence with the public.

The final day involved rotating small group sessions regarding currently available technology tools. Judge Weimer & Paula Crouse discussed Sign Desk. Judge Stecker and Mike Prochnow discussed Judges’ Portal, followed by Judge Smith and Jordan Hernandez who covered Docket for District Court.
