Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court Celebrates Graduation

The Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court celebrated the graduation of Tim Reznicek on March 2, 2022, at the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center in Omaha with family, friends, local community members, and local veterans. Veterans Treatment Court Judge Horacio Wheelock presided over the ceremony. Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly was the guest speaker. According to Problem-Solving Court Coordinator Rob Owens, “This is a great achievement for the graduate, and we proudly celebrate Reznicek’s accomplishments.”

Veterans Treatment Courts are an alternate route through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders utilizing a specialized team process within the existing court structure. The courts are designed to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The court aims to protect public safety and increase the participant's likelihood of successful rehabilitation by utilizing validated risk and need assessments, early and individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent and random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative ancillary services.
