Fourth Core of Probation AC4E (Advanced Coaching for Excellence): Incentives & Sanctions

In 2017, the Office of Probation and the Courts began the development and implementation of the AC4E initiative designed to support probation officers in successfully implementing the eight principles of evidence-based practices in investigation and supervision.  Three of the four cores of AC4E have been implemented, to date.   Training for Trainers for the final core was held from April 17-19th in Lincoln.  Trainers from every probation district in the state were trained by subject matter experts in the fields of graduated response and engagement, Helen Harberts, J.D., retired prosecuting attorney and Chief Probation Officer, The Honorable Diane Bull, J.D., retired judge and special judge in the state of Texas and judicial consultant for NADCP, Tevin Shouse, and Hasan Davis, J.D, former Commissioner of Juvenile Justice for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and HOPE Dealer.

Training focused on graduated response, the science and the strategies behind applying incentives and sanctions, as well as the importance of individualized and immediate responses to behavior.  Trainers had the opportunity to consider how brain development, trauma, and addiction impact behavior and how best to respond in order to impact those on probation and problem-solving court participants.  The fourth core will be implemented in probation districts statewide during 2023.
