Nebraska Air National Guard Chief Master Sergeant Scott Tontegode served as the guest speaker, and the ceremony was presided over by District Court Judge Kevin McManaman and retired District Court Judge John Colborn.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Veterans Affairs Office, the Vets Center, Lancaster County Attorney Patrick Condon and attorneys from his office, members of the Lancaster County Public Defender’s Office, probation staff, and local community members.

The graduation marks the completion of an intensive program involving comprehensive mental health treatment, close community supervision, and strict accountability. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate’s charges are dismissed.

Veterans Treatment Courts are an alternate route through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders, utilizing a specialized team process that functions within the existing court structure. The courts are designed to achieve a reduction in recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The court aims to protect public safety and increase the participant's likelihood of successful rehabilitation by utilizing validated risk and need assessments, early and individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent and random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative and ancillary services.
