Legislature Adjourned August 13

Although interrupted by COVID-19 concerns, the second session of the 106th Legislature reconvened on July 20 and adjourned for the year on August 13.

Legislative topics that impact the judicial branch this year include county court civil procedures, removal of e-filing barriers, and juries. In addition, several bills became law concerning juveniles, and in particular, youth rehabilitation and treatment centers (YRTC). Most bills of interest to the judicial branch become effective November 14, 2020. The link to the 2020 judicial branch legislation list on the Intranet will be included in the next newsletter.

Final budget decisions included additional funding for problem-solving courts related to young adults and mental health. The judicial branch will also submit its budget request for the 2021-2023 biennium by September 15.
