May 4 is National Interpreter Appreciation Day
There are about 6,500 languages in the world, and in the past year the Language Access Program provided interpreters in more than two-thirds of Nebraska’s 93 counties, across all 12 Judicial Districts. Collectively, those interpreters communicated in 49 different languages, from across the globe, with Spanish the most frequently interpreted language.
Today, the Nebraska Judicial Branch uses National Interpreter Appreciation Day to thank our Language Access Program and Nebraska’s independent contractor court interpreters for their outstanding work. Language should not be a barrier for court users who do not speak or understand English well. To our Language Access Team, and those who interpret in courts and probation offices across the state, we appreciate your skills and celebrate your commitment to enabling Nebraska’s court users and probation clients to tell their own stories in their own words in the Nebraska Judicial Branch!
