Media Day Outreach Held for Western Nebraska Outlets
Court-Media Day gatherings have begun again across Nebraska. Following a pandemic reorganization, Judges in Sidney and North Platte organized meet-and-greet gatherings with area news reporters to get reacquainted.
The purpose of the information session is to get to know each other better, allow the court to introduce the media to the operations of and issues facing the court, provide the media with an opportunity to discuss issues they encounter when covering the court, and introduce the media to the court’s facilities.
According to Judges Randin Roland and Derek Weimer, the meeting in the Cheyenne County District Court Courtroom, held May 1, resulted in good discussions and positive relationship building with those who attended.
In the 11th Judicial District, Judges Roberts-Connic, Piccolo, Jay, Wightman, and Neher sponsored a program along with court and probation staff. Judges reported that media representatives were very engaged and asked a lot of good questions.
Other courts have been asked to participate in media outreach programs and will be arranging gatherings as schedules allow.
