National Interpreter Appreciation Day May 3rd

National Interpreter Appreciation Day falls on the first Wednesday of May each year and allows us to pause and recognize the experts who connect parties that don’t speak the same language.  Their ability to interpret is an awe-inspiring accomplishment and each day they help to ensure justice in Nebraska’s courts and probation.  The professional knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a court interpreter are highly complex. Spoken communication requires immediate knowledge of specialized and legal terminology, dialect and jargon, and an appreciation of nuances in meaning.

In the Nebraska Judicial Branch, we value diversity, and our interpreters are emblematic of that.  Thanks to them, we are rich in ways that most organizations could never dream possible.  We are better together thanks to our interpreters.  We appreciate their ability to connect us and keep us connected to each other and the world. When you encounter an interpreter, give them your undivided attention. Let them know you admire their skill and dedication because quite simply our interpreters are remarkable at what they do!
