Nebraska Judges Highlighted in Nebraska History Museum Display

While wandering through the Suffrage Story exhibit at the Nebraska History Museum, Deputy Clerk of the Supreme Court Jody Schmidt noticed a few familiar faces and names. Featured are names and photos of women who are noted as Nebraska ‘firsts’ in the Judicial Branch.

Included are:

  • Judge Betty Pittman, first woman judge, 1971
  • Judge Mary Gilbride, first woman on the district court bench, 1998 (after being appointed to county court in 1992)
  • Judge Lindsey Miller-Lerman, first woman on the Nebraska Supreme Court, 1998
  • Judge Stefanie Martinez, first Latina judge, 2017

The display runs through September 30, 2022, at the Nebraska History Museum in downtown Lincoln: https://history.nebraska.gov/museum
