The Nebraska State Library is headed to East Campus.
On October 1, 2019, the Nebraska State Library staff will be moving to a temporary location at Schmid Law Library on UNL’s East Campus for the duration of Phase 2 of the State Capitol HVAC renovation project. You can visit the Schmid Law Library website for directions and to search their online catalog.
UNL’s law library has a comprehensive legal collection with popular treatises on every major topic of law, as well as federal, state, and case law. Their collection of Nebraska legal materials includes: Nebraska Revised Statutes, Session Laws, Nebraska Reports and Appellate Reports, Nebraska Court Rules, Nebraska Jury Instructions, Nebraska Supreme Court Briefs, Legislative Bills, and CLE materials.
As always, we will do our best to find what you are looking for, even if that means borrowing from another institution. Our goal is to continue to provide you access to all the same resources that are currently available.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
FAQ
- When will the library close?
Our last day in the Capitol building will be September 30, 2019.
- Will the library’s hours change?
No. The library will still be staffed from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. You are welcome to visit Schmid Law Library during their hours of operation, but Nebraska State Library staff will only be able to assist you during our regular office hours.
- Will there be parking available?
Yes. There will be 2 designated parking spaces in the lot directly south of the Law School (McCollum Hall). The signs will read “Supreme Court Library” and a sign-in sheet will be available inside.
- Will reference assistance still be available?
Yes. Regular reference services will be available in person, by phone, and email. Our office will be located in the back of the library, but you can ask for our assistance at the Circulation or Reference Desk and we will come out to help you.
- How can I request materials if I cannot come to the library?
Email nsc.lawlibrary@nebraska.gov or call to arrange document delivery.
- Can I still check out books?
We are not bringing our books with us and circulation of the UNL collection will be determined on an as-needed basis. We encourage you to do your research at Schmid Law Library whenever possible. Scanners are free and include options for emailing or saving to a USB drive. Copy machines are also available.
- Will I still be able to come and use Westlaw and JUSTICE?
Yes. Self-Help kiosks with access to the same legal databases that we currently subscribe to: Westlaw, Hein Online, and case searching in JUSTICE/SCCALES will be available.
- How will the move affect the Nebraska Publications Office?
We will continue to manage the ongoing sale and distribution of Nebraska Revised Statutes and Session Laws, but there will be no on-site pick-up orders. State agencies will receive orders via Interoffice Mail.
- How long will the renovation take?
Phase 2 of the HVAC renovation is expected to take 18-24 months.
- How can I stay up-to-date on changes?
Any major updates will be posted on our Facebook page, the Judicial Branch website, and/or via email. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
