New State Senators Invited to Meet With Court
Chief Justice Heavican and justices of the Supreme Court hosted a Judicial Branch orientation program on December 2, 2020, for newly elected senators who will serve the 2021-2025 term.
Senators gathered in the Court of Appeals courtroom for an overview of the Judicial Branch, including an update on administrative functions.
New state senators included Eliot Bostar, Legislative District 29; John Cavanaugh, Legislative District 9; Jen Day, Legislative District 49; Terrell McKinney, Legislative District 11; and, Rita Sanders, Legislative District 45. Returning senators were Ray Aguilar, Legislative District 35 (previous legislative service: 1999-2009); and, Mike Flood, Legislative District 19 (previous service: 2005-2013). Senator Rich Pahls, Legislative District 31 (previous service: 2005-2013), was unable to attend.
Following the welcome and introductions, State Court Administrator Corey Steel and State Probation Administrator Deborah Minardi provided the senators with information about the Judicial Branch's administrative structure and operations.
Senators are also invited to their local courts through the Legislative-Judicial Visit program for a tour of facilities and a personal visit with judges and staff.
