The Administrative Office of Probation has announced that it has recently partnered with the Center for Sex Offender Management (CSOM) to improve its response regarding the investigation and supervision of Adult Sex Offender clients as well as Juveniles Who Sexually Harm clients.  CSOM is a national clearinghouse and technical assistance center that is administered by the Center for Effective Public Policy and provides support to state and local jurisdictions in the effective management of sex offenders.

The first step of this initiative is a series of two day trainings coordinated by the Administrative Office of Probation and facilitated by CSOM staff.  Three of these training sessions are being held in June specifically for the Adult Sex Offender populations.  There will be two more sessions that will focus on Juveniles Who Sexually Harm later this summer.  The focus of the trainings is to provide an overview of sex offenders (who they are, how and why they offend), as well evidenced-based and best practice strategies for effective case management.  These topics include investigations, assessments, and treatment; and working with treatment providers, conducting field work and searches, victim issues, and recognizing/mitigating vicarious trauma.

Probation and CSOM will continue to work together in the coming months to review policies and protocols of these specialized populations to determine the need for potential updates and/or changes.  In addition, work will be done to update internal training for probation staff in these areas as probation continues to move forward.
