Melanie Stormer, new Chief Probation Officer for District 1, was sworn-in Tuesday, July 19, 2023, in the Saline County District Courtroom by District Judge Julie Smith.

Stormer has over 20 years of prior experience, including service as a Chief Probation Officer of a rural jurisdiction, probation supervisor, clinical supervisor for the problem-solving court, program coordinator (Big Brothers and Big Sisters) for youth, and most recently served as a national consultant involving the training, education, and coaching for officers and justice stakeholders on evidence-based practices. Stormer has also served as an adult and juvenile probation officer.

Stormer replaces former Probation Chief Ashley Griess who resigned in late 2022.
