Youth Restorative Justice Overview Booklet and Statewide Referral Form
As part of the Nebraska Juvenile Restorative Justice and Family Intervention Initiative, a booklet was developed for referral sources to provide to youth, their families, and victims that may be interested in restorative justice and want additional information. The booklet outlines the initiative's goals, summarizes four youth restorative justice processes, and discusses the importance of family engagement and the role of the harmed person, including the choices they have about participation.
Additionally, the booklet provides information on the outcomes specific to Victim Youth Conferencing, one of the restorative justice processes available, and what this initiative is building upon. There is also information on the research and evaluation components, integral parts provided by the University of Nebraska Lincoln and UNO’s Juvenile Justice Institute. The booklet is available online and also in hard copy. Contact nsc.mediation@nebraska.gov to request copies.
In conjunction with the publication, an online referral form is now available at http://nejudicial.com/rjreferral. Referrals to youth restorative justice are available by schools, diversion offices, Probation, attorneys, a harmed person, a youth or family member, or anyone in the community. Rather than a referral source needing to determine what mediation center to contact for services, the completed form is forwarded to the appropriate center based on the county indicated.
