Dollar Limit on Small Claims Cases Increases to $3,900 on July 1, 2020

The limit in small claims cases has been raised from $3,600 to $3,900 as of July 1, 2020.

Small claims courts provide citizens of the State of Nebraska a prompt and inexpensive way to resolve minor disputes.  Hearings are informal and legal procedures are kept to a minimum.  Small claims court is a division of county court and the hearings are conducted by a county judge.  Small claims court is limited to civil matters involving disputes regarding amounts of money owed, damage to property or seeking the return of personal property.  Judgments sought or the amount of money claimed may not exceed $3,900.

The adjustment is effective July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2025.
