Accounting Clerk (Lancaster County)

District: 3rd Judicial District

This classification level is responsible for working under general supervision and performing basic routine accounting support, processing accounting related tasks, data entry and bookkeeping duties for assigned large and mid-sized county court. Responsibilities may include: reviewing and maintaining accounts payable/receivable information, verifying and correcting; tracking credits, payments and preparing monthly balance; maintaining courts bank account by making deposits, writing checks, and routinely reconciling, balancing all accountings and financial records. May provide guidance to clerical staff receiving payments.
JOB DUTIES:
- Enters a variety of financial information into spreadsheets and/or databases, processes payments, prepares invoices, and issues receipts for payments and similar transactions e.g. bond refunds and restitution checks.
- Receives, reviews, prepares, and processes a variety of basic accounting and/or financial transactions, which may include: accounts payable, accounts receivable, billings, deposits, and/or related transactions.
- Balances daily financial transactions; produces cash reports.
- Tracks and/or maintains a variety of records, logs, and files; files documents as directed.
- Generates, prepares and distributes a variety of basic accounting reports and other documents related to assigned area of responsibility utilizing established guidelines.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); and 1 to 2 years of experience in cash handling, basic accounting; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

Knowledge Requirements:

- Cashiering and ability to read bank statements;
- Recordkeeping principles;
- Data entry techniques;
- Office procedures;
- Knowledge of state and federal laws;
- Knowledge of judicial, jail, and court system;
- Computers and related office equipment.
Skill Requirements:
- Providing customer service;
- Maintaining records and files;
- Perfuming basic mathematical calculations;
- Tabulating, recording, and balancing transactions;
- Operating computers and applicable software applications;
- Using a computer and applicable software applications;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Physical Requirements: Positions in this class work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required, not to exceed 20 LBS.
HIRING RATE (during probation): $41,504.02 per year
MINIMUM RATE (after probation): $42,541.65 per year
