The Douglas County Court in Omaha, NE is currently accepting applications for a full time Assistant Clerk I in our Criminal Traffic Division. In the absence of the Judicial Administrator, Division Manager, the Clerk of the Court, or the Assistant Clerk II, the Assistant Clerk I as designated, will assume the responsibility of the office including deputy authority. Other functions may include the performance of supervisory and clerical duties. Douglas County is the largest court in the state of Nebraska handling over 90,000 cases a year and this position plays a critical and intricate role in the operations of the court.
JOB DUTIES:
Work involves advanced knowledge and skills within the Criminal/Traffic Division of the court. In addition to working detailed reports, this position will be responsible for executing the training and mentoring plan of the court. This division handles over 60,000 cases a year and is an extremely fast paced environment. The Assistant Clerk I may perform records clerk, accounting clerk, or registrar duties, assign, supervise, and review the work of other employees, answer administrative inquiries, prepare reports, and compile statistics, assist with data entry functions, budget preparations, formulation of office policies and procedures, and may be assigned other duties as required. (The position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned.)
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent PLUS at least three years' experience working in a court system or other business environment. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience. The ability to speak Spanish is desired but not required.
Other: Successful completion of "on-the-job training" in the use of JUSTICE (the statewide court computer system) within six months will be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Experience and familiarity in the court, to include judicial processes and operations of court, especially in a larger court setting. Requirements include knowledge of laws, procedures, policies and operations of the court; typing skills and computer data entry knowledge; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel at all levels; ability to implement decisions effectively ability to communicate both orally and in writing; abilities to plan, organize, assign and supervise the work of others; proficiency in the use of JUSTICE and DOCKET.
HIRING RATE (during probation): $39,527.66 per year
MINIMUM RATE (after probation): $40,515.91 per year
