The Adams County Public Defender's Office is dedicated to providing competent, effective, and ethical legal representation to people unable to afford private counsel in certain cases when life or liberty issues are at stake. Legal services are provided cost-effectively while ensuring that the county criminal justice system operates efficiently and achieves just results for Public Defender clients as much as possible. Our office primarily represents indigent clients on felony and misdemeanor cases, juvenile status offenses and (3)(a) and (c) cases, mental health proceedings, and limited paternity and child support matters. Current Open Positions
The Adams County Public Defender’s Office in Hastings, Nebraska has an immediate opening for a Deputy Public Defender. Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Nebraska State Bar Association is required. Our office is committed to providing top-notch representation to indigent clients for felony, misdemeanor, juvenile, mental health commitments and child support/paternity cases as assigned by the courts. Our current team consists of two skilled attorneys and we are looking to add three (3) more aspiring attorneys to our team. Criminal and juvenile law experience is preferred, but not mandatory, and new graduates are encouraged to apply. This position provides significant trial experience, which is particularly valuable to new graduates as well as seasoned attorneys. Starting salary is $82,000.00 per year, or more, depending on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is included with this position, and it qualifies for Veterans’ Preference/EOE/AAP.
