Judge Kelly to Retire May 1, 2020

Douglas County Separate Juvenile Court Judge Christopher E. Kelly has announced his retirement. His last day on the bench will be May 1, 2020.

In his letter to the Chief Justice, Kelly wrote, "It has been an honor and a privilege for me to be entrusted to serve the State of Nebraska and its children and families as a Douglas Juvenile Court Judge."

Judge Kelly has served as a juvenile judge in Omaha from 2000 to 2020 and has worked on numerous committees for the Nebraska Supreme Court and the Separate Juvenile Judges Association.

After taking the bench on January 28, 2000, Judge Kelly was continuously retained in his position by area voters, most recently in 2016.

The first step in replacing Kelly will be for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether or not, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a judicial vacancy on the Separate Juvenile Court.
